They discussed so called “law against homosexual propaganda” and the overall situation of LGBT in Russia.

We consider it being necessary to express solidarity with those who are persecuted due to their pro-Ukrainian views, civic stand and desire for freedom in Russia-annexed Crimea.

The report reflects on the Right to Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and Association, Torture, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment, Political Persecutions, Freedom of Conscience and Religion, The Rights of the Child, Protection of Labor Rights.

«We have a few questions for you,» a border guard told Sinaver Kadyrov, a Crimean Tatar activist, at the Armyansk checkpoint in northern Crimea on Jan. 23. Kadyrov was on his way to Kherson, in southern Ukraine, to fly to Turkey for medical treatment. It was the beginning of an ordeal that ended with a local court expelling him from Crimea, his home of almost 25 years.

Sverdlovsk Regional Court has started cassational proceedings of criminal case of Alexey Sokolov, human right activist

Sverdlovsk Regional Court has started criminal proceedings in the cassational instance on a charge of Alexey Sokolov, the Head of the regional civic organization “Pravovaya osnova”, in finding him guilty with criminal acts provided by cl. “c” part. 3 Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Theft committed by a group of persons in a preliminary conspiracy by illegal entry into premises; on a large scale); cl.”a” part 3 Article 161 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Robbery committed by a group of persons in a preliminary conspiracy with an illegal entry into premises, with the use of coercion that is not dangerous to human life or health; on a large scale)

Lev Ponomaryov, Executive Director of All-Russian movement “For Human Rights”, will defend Sokolov.
 

Trial Court has found Sokolov guilty with the theft of drillpipes owned by “Uralneft JSC” (total cost is more than 500 000 RUB) he had committed together with another person in April, 2001 in Krasnofumsk.

Sokolov together with some partners was also found guilty with committing the robbery of non ferrous metal products and other products owned by the welding equipment factory “Uraltermosvar Ltd.” in Bogdanovich (total cost is more than 1 100 000 RUB) in June, 2004.
 

According to the judgement of the court, Alexey Sokolov was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment serving punishment in a correctional colony of strict regime.
 

Regional procuracy brought the cassational appeal into the court of last resort in which the question of the vacating of judgment was raised due to the fact that the acts of Alexey Sokolov require classification according to the felony crime article of the CC of the RF and also additional classification according to Article 162 of the CC of the RF (robbery with extreme violence).
 

Moreover the lawyers filed an additional cassation appeal of the court verdict. In this connection the court was adjourn in order to learn the case of appeal of the other trial participants.
 

The examination of the substance of the case in the Regional Procuracy will result in demurrer processing decision.
 

During the cassational proceedings in the case in which Regional Procuracy Representative took a part, the Court granted a motion of A. Sokolov’s lawyers to the admission to the process the Executive Director of All-Russian movement “For Human Rights” as a defender.
