" What is being celebrated, Serzh?" - The action in memory of the victims in Armenia
On the 9th of April the action in memory of the victims of the broken up demonstrations on the 1-2 of March took place in Kiev near the Armenian Embassy.
The 9th of April is the date of the 40 days since the tradegy has happened, and it is also the President inauguration in Armenia.
Picket was organized by the representatives of the World Youth Movement for Democracy and was supported by the Armenian
human rihgts defenders and members of the Youth Human Rights Movement - Ukraine.
The participants didn't make any political demands. They held only white linen with black ribbones, pinks and candels. «We have nothing to say, everything was said. We don't understand what can be celebrated today», - says Anastasia Nikitina, the member of the WYMD work committee and the YHRM participant. Young people laid wreathes.
About 30 persons took part in the actoin. They were from Armenia, Serbia, Great Britan, Belarus, Georgia, Norway, USA, Russia and Ukraine.
The participants distributed leaflets in English, Russian and Ukrainian: «What is being celebrated, Serzh?» - was written on them - «40 days ago in Erevan 8 people were killed, more then 100 were arrested for inauguration of 1 president».
«Yesterday at the work meeting of the WYMD representatives from the Armenian Helsinki Assotiation was made the presentation of the developments in Armenia after the president election and the breaking up of the protest peaceful actions. And we had decided to make this action», - says Dmitry Makarov, the member of the YHRM. He pointed: «It was important to make action on this day - the Day of youth activities for Human Rights - to make protest against inadmissible treatment and cynicism, in the athmospere of which takes place the
inauguration - exactly in 40 days after the tragedy - when no actions were made to investigate crimes, many peolpe are still arrested and the situation in general hasn't been cleared yet».
The actions in memory also took place in Armenia and Moscow.
