Tanya Lokshina is the Russia program director at Human Rights Watch and Honorary Participant of International Youth Human Rights Movement: As the crisis in Ukraine escalated this spring, the Kremlin’s vicious crackdown on civil society also escalated. Space for independent civic activity in Russia is shrinking dramatically, but international policymakers and the media have been understandably too distracted to do much about it. Since early spring, it seems as though every week brings a new pernicious law or legislative proposal.

They discussed so called “law against homosexual propaganda” and the overall situation of LGBT in Russia.

Oleg Sentsov, Olexander Kolchenko, Hennadiy Afanasiev and Oleksiy Chyrniy have been held in Russian jails for two years already under fabricated charges of ‘terrorism’. We consider it being necessary to express solidarity with those who are persecuted due to their pro-Ukrainian views, civic stand and desire for freedom in Russia-annexed Crimea.

Helsinki Committee of Armenia has published “Human Rights in Armenia 2014” Annual Report. The report reflects on the Right to Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and Association, Torture, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment, Political Persecutions, Freedom of Conscience and Religion, The Rights of the Child, Protection of Labor Rights.

«We have a few questions for you,» a border guard told Sinaver Kadyrov, a Crimean Tatar activist, at the Armyansk checkpoint in northern Crimea on Jan. 23. Kadyrov was on his way to Kherson, in southern Ukraine, to fly to Turkey for medical treatment. It was the beginning of an ordeal that ended with a local court expelling him from Crimea, his home of almost 25 years.

In the early November 10 young Russian leaders, representing civic organiztions, came to Brussels with the support of Heinrich Boll Stiftung (Moscow and Brussels offices). Official purpose of the meeting was capacity building through acquaintance to the European institutions and policies towards Russia, as well as opportunities of Russian NGOs in Brussels on solving their problems.

For 2 days (November 5 through 6) the human rights education experts from all over Europe discussed the World Programme for Human Rights Education (WPHRE) in the main building of the Council of Europe.
The representatives of the international Youth Human Rights Movement and the "Young Europe" international network took part in the meeting.

The first OSCE Youth Forum was organized on November 5-6 in Madrid on the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain in the framework of the country's chairmanship in the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe in 2007.
Anna Dobrovolskaya represented the international Youth Human Rights Movement at the Forum.

A regular meeting of the Advisory Council on Youth of the Council of Europe, the body composed of the representatives of European youth organizations, took place on October 17-19 at the European Youth Centre in Budapest.

The website Human Rights in Russia at www.hro.org has become the victim of a major DDoS attack. This Distributed Denial of Service assault is a notorious means of closing access to a site by effectively inundating it
with a huge number of requests. The site’s system becomes overloaded, and therefore doesn’t open when Internet users try to access it. The attack was first noted around 21.30 on 21 October. The assault is ferocious with around 200 requests a second.

Our Organization - one of the most active human rights organizations in the Russian speaking space "International Youth Human Rights Movement" has been declared "inactive" and was deprived of legal personality by court decision in Nizhy Novgorod, Russia on demand of the Federal Registration Service. The judgment has been passed on Jun.13 but organization learned about it just a few days ago – the hearings took place behind closed doors with YHRM not notified.
