Youth Human Rights Movement has been launched in spring 1998.

In April 1999 in Moscow young activists signed the Declaration about foundation of Youth Human Rights Movement, formed Coordination Council. Currently Network YHRM unites more then 120 organizations and 1000 members from Russia, NIS, Eastern Europe and other regions.

In these 9 years there have been organized and supported more then 30 public campaigns, realized about 35 projects aimed on support to young human rights defenders, involvement youth into civil activity, promotion of human rights, solidarity, tolerance, peacemaking. There have been provided researches on students’ rights, social-labor rights of youth, antifascism, decision-making; reports, newspapers and other informational and enlightenment materials were published.

 As a permanent project YHRM provides internships for young activists and public leaders in civic organizations of Russia, Central and Eastern Europe. More then 100 young people from different Russian Regions have become the participants of this program.

Trainers’ team of YHRM has provided more then 200 seminars and training-courses, in which about 3000 leaders and activists of youth organizations and groups, students and schoolchildren form Russia, CIS and other countries took part.

The first YHRM site was launched in 2000, and some information is still there: http://YHRM.narod.ru/ .

Later we changed the address, and our second site has been launched at: http://YHRM.HRworld.ru/, and at http://HRworld.ru/ since 2002 there has been situated large portal of civic and human rights organizations, which YHRM has supported.

And finally our third site is situated here – at http://YHRM.org/.

[ 02.05.2009 ] International Youth Meeting in Georgia

Youth meeting “Intercultural and Interreligious Diologue v.s. Hate-motivated Violence in Europe” took place on 21-26 April in Bakuriani, Georgia. The major topics of the meeting were: the level of right-wing extremists’ violence in Europe, European and national legislation that addresses hate crimes, methods of counteracting that are available for the youth sector of civil society in Europe.

[ 29.04.2009 ] Meeting in Vilnius on improving human rights education for young people

On 27th of April, 2009, government and civil society experts from Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Russia and Ukraine began a three-day meeting in Vilnius to discuss improving human rights education for young people.

[ 28.04.2009 ] Moscow is repeatedly obliged to approve the reform of the European Court of Human Rights

The spring session of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) opened in Strasbourg. Almost all issues considered by it concern Russia – either expressly or by implication. The most important of them is the reform of the European Court of Human Rights which is for three years in succession blocked by the Russian Federation alone. Having despaired to over persuade Moscow, the Council of Europe member states have found a solution how to do without it.
