The Perm branch of the Centre for the Support of Democratic Youth Initiatives – the Youth “Memorial” continues to receive applications for participation in voluntary youth projects, which will take place in July - August 2010. Each of the events has its own specificity and the attractive aspects.

The Research Expedition “Along the Rivers of Memory” combines explorative research into local history with a rafting trip along the river. The main aim of the expedition is to learn about the history of political repression during the Soviet period.

This mobile workcamp “Stvor” is based on the “Rivers of Memory” project. It takes the form of a recreational rafting trip. The main site of the camp will be the former Soviet prison camp “Stvor”, where volunteers from the Youth Memorial have been building a “museum without a guide” since 2007.

The International volunteer workcamp “Love’s Bridge” and the International volunteer training camp “Creative workshops for volunteers” will be held in a purpose-made volunteer camp near Perm-36, formerly a labor camp for political prisoners of the Soviet regime. Well-known dissidents and human rights activists were held here in the 1970s and 1980s. Nowadays, Perm-36 is a Museum for the Memory of Political Repression and Totalitarism in the USSR – the only museum of its kind in Russia. Since 1995, volunteers from the Youth Memorial have spent summer volunteering at the museum while living in a volunteer camp on the bank of the nearby Chusovoi river.

The International volunteer workcamp “Blurring the boundaries” will take place in the town of Okhansk in the Perm Krai, in conjunction with the German organization “Internationaler Bauorden” (International Building Order). The purpose of the camp is to carry out renovations in the apartments of elderly people living in the Okhansk area who were formerly victims of political repression. The volunteers will as well help a sport tourist center in land improvement. We propose that half the participants will be volunteers from Western Europe, and the other half – Russian volunteers. Bicycles will be available.

The International volunteer workcamp “Kvartira” will take place in the small Ural settlement Polazn, not far from Perm. The camp is run in conjunction with the German organization “Aktion Suehnezeichen Friedensdienste” (Action Reconciliation Service for Peace). Half of the participants will be volunteers from Western Europe, the other half will be Russian volunteers.

Young people at the age from 15 till 35 years, including employees and volunteers of the noncommercial voluntary organizations, journalists, foreign volunteers, are invited to participate in the project.
