December 19th marked the fourth victory, with a large advantage, of Mr. Lukashenko.
Exactly like four years ago, there is strong suspicion of gerrymandering, as pointed out by many organisations and informal groups of students committed in monitoring actions during the electoral period.
“480 votes are missing from one of the first controlled ballot boxes” says Viasna, the organisation of lawyers that during the night between December 19th and 20th had their offices raided by personnel of the special forces, with the arrest of 10 activists.
More of ten thousand demonstrators were in Minsk's central square during that night; as of now 400 people were arrested, between them four candidates belonging to the opposition, including Anatol Liabedzka, and more of 30 people were injured, including Vladzimir Niakliayeu.
There are a lot of students among the people arrested during the electoral period and they face risk of expulsion from all Belarusian Universities forever, thanks to a law introduced by Lukashenko, this way losing their right to education.
We ask all European Universities to support and host in the best possible way the Belarusian students who will be forced to leave their Country in order to continue their studies.
