The Promo-LEX Association, a Non-Governmental and apolitical Organization, which aims to promote democracy and human rights, welcomes the efforts and the results achieved by the constitutional authorities of Chisinau in the release of both The Mayor of Corjova and a Local Councilor, Valeriul Mitul and Iurie Cotofan.

The release of The Mayor and the Local Councilor, confirms that human rights and freedoms in the region of Transnistria can and should be defended by the constitutional structures. Although it still remains a difficult goal, when constitutional authorities are consistent in their efforts, victims of the illegal regime of Tiraspol can benefit from the guarantees provided by national legislation and international documents to which Moldova is party to. In this context it is important that the actions of the constitutional authorities go beyond declarations and appeals.

In these circumstances, Promo-LEX recalls to the Moldovan Government the fate of many other similar cases of abuse, kidnappings and sequestration of persons living in the Transnistrian region, which remain unresolved.
Promo-LEX repeatedly requests, that the constitutional authorities persue efforts towards the release of two the two political prisoners Ernest Vardanean and Ilie Cazac.
