We have a dream

The Manifesto of Young Idealists in Defence of Civil Society 

We have a dream. A dream about an unrealizable state. About a state which would return itself its initial, public contract, and the now almost lost value - serving the interests of its citizens. Not some special, privileged and "correct" interests, but all without exception - including non-standard, inconvenient and objectionable interests.

We do not speak now about social justice - different people too have different opinions about this phenomenon. We speak about the priority of universal values and the equality of rights.
We dream of a state where the desire to create integration would not be equated to a grave crime. Where working free of charge for the sake of an idea and the donation of money for social projects would not cause a mass of questions. Where militiamen would not need to be convinced that the dispersal of a peaceful demonstration with bludgeons is an extremely original interpretation of the law protection. Where there would be no multi-thousand room army absorbing bribes and building summer residences from “inappropriate funds”, yet simultaneously vigilantly watching the "transparency and accountability" of any more or less free association. Where indifferent bureaucrats would not liquidate, by a stroke of the pen, the organizations created by the people to help the state in the execution of its functions (there, where it cannot manage) and the realizations of its interests (there, where it does not concern the state). Where people would not be put in prison, and newspapers would not been closed for an opportunity to express their opinion. Where there is the impartial court, capable passing an independent and competent decision, even if it is in favor of the citizen, instead of the authorities.

But for now it is necessary for us to deal with an absolutely different reality. We do not break the law (at least those that do not violate the rights of citizens), we do not receive any profit from this and we do not carry out anybody's orders. We do not strive for authority, and really, we are not ready to waste our energy struggling for it. And consequently, it is a little strange to us that the authorities persistently make us out as the enemy for average naive inhabitant so that the “watching state bodies” have a reason to explain their existence. Though, on the other hand, it is quite explainable. Because we by our life refute stereotypes about the failure of freedom in the name of safety and comfort. Consequently it would be especially desirable for them to take us under their control.

Fortunately, only civil society does not give in to the training. Yes, it is possible to make it necessary to write hundreds reports - one per day, every day of the year; to select poor finances; to expel from premises; to create tens of new supervising and punishing bodies; to put into prison or even physically destroy. It is impossible to extinguish this energy, synergetically reproducing in different parts of the world where there are still free people. Because it is born from a natural aspiration of the person to live adequately, to develop and to realize themselves, against which, sooner or later, even the most totalitarian systems will be defeated.

And therefore we continue to dream. To dream about that time and space when we can cease struggling and simply start to live and build without barriers and prohibitions.
